Herd Management App for Seniors

Context

Alpaca Guild’s mobile app is designed to support alpaca farmers worldwide in managing their herd’s data on the go. Users can access important information about animals including weight, fleece quality, family trees, and sales, all from a centralized, user-friendly mobile solution.

This project focused on simplifying complex farm management tasks into a clear and approachable mobile experience tailored to users who may not be familiar with modern interfaces.

Challenge

The main challenge was to modernize alpaca management while keeping it accessible for an older user base (50+ audience). Many farmers are less familiar with new digital interfaces, so the app had to prioritize clarity, readability, and intuitive navigation.

Solution

Through user research and design exploration, the experience was shaped around simplicity and accessibility. The design focuses on:

• Simplified user flow
  Navigation within the app was designed to be intuitive and streamlined, reducing cognitive load and making actions predictable and easy to complete.
  
  

• Large typography
  Text and interface elements use larger type sizes so information is easy to read on any device, especially for users with lower visual acuity.
  
  

• High color contrast
  Strong contrast between text and background ensures optimal visibility for all ages, supporting accessibility standards.

The combination of these decisions creates a mobile experience that feels both modern and familiar, enabling farmers to complete tasks confidently and without frustration.

Conclusion

This project highlights a commitment to user-centered design and accessibility. It demonstrates the ability to take a complex domain — alpaca herd management — and translate it into a clear, approachable mobile app that meets the needs of real users.
